Services & Resources for Nonprofits

The Foundation offers a variety of financial and other services to help nonprofits maximize their effectiveness and amplify their impact. Our financial services are designed to help nonprofits increase their sustainability by establishing stable, predictable sources of income and enabling them to accept complex gifts. Other services we provide encourage nonprofits to connect with each other, share expertise, and stay informed about useful grant and capacity-building opportunities.

Considering starting a new nonprofit? Looking for additional grant funding resources? Hoping to improve your skills as a member of a nonprofit Board? Below are some excellent resources which may be helpful in your nonprofit journey.

Being the trusted resource for local nonprofit organizations and understanding their needs and challenges is an important part of our mission and services. We encourage nonprofits and Board members to connect with our Grantmaking team of Greg Hamilton and Camille Sachs by email or calling 970-879-8632.

Fund Management & Financial Services

Agency Fund Management

Agency Funds are established by financially stable nonprofits wanting to benefit from investment of their assets. The nonprofit transfers assets to the Foundation and is designated as the beneficiary of the fund, and the Foundation manages and invests the funds. The Foundation works closely with agencies to help them understand which type of agency fund is right for them and the guidelines and legal requirements around starting, building, and benefitting from an endowment.

When appropriate, the Yampa Valley Community Foundation encourages agencies to build endowments to establish stable, predictable sources of income for future needs as per the mission of the agency. Our Endowment Toolkit is a resource to get you started.

Non-endowed Agency Funds

  • Reserved for agencies that have excess funding and are seeking an opportunity to invest in the stock market.
  • Funds are used for short- or mid-term rainy day expenses.

Endowed Agency Funds

  • Encouraged only for nonprofits that have a significant reserve and/or are anticipating large legacy gifts and are ready to establish a long-term income stream.
  • Administered according to the Foundation’s Spending Policy for Endowment Funds.

For more information about opening an Agency Fund at YVCF, contact Greg Hamilton at greg@yvcf.org.

Complex Gift Acceptance & Planned Giving Partnership

Do you have a donor who wishes to donate stock or complex assets to your organization?

Gifts of appreciated securities may allow a charitable deduction for the fair market value while helping the donor avoid capital gains taxes that might otherwise occur at the sale of the stock.

Planned gifts from an estate can create a substantial contribution to a nonprofit agency or an agency’s endowment.

Examples of planned giving vehicles commonly included in estate plans are:

  • Securities
  • Bequests
  • Real Estate
  • Life Insurance
  • Retirement Accounts

As a service to local nonprofits and to facilitate planned giving and boost financial sustainability for local nonprofits, YVCF may be able to accept complex assets and planned gifts from a donor’s estate on behalf of a nonprofit as per our Gift Acceptance Policy.

For more information on our Giving Partnership services, contact Karen O’Connor at karen@yvcf.org.
