YVCF Nonprofit Needs Funding

YVCF Nonprofit Needs Funding Program

The Yampa Valley Community Foundation is committed to supporting the nonprofit organizations serving Moffat and Routt Counties. YVCF encourages all nonprofits to build realistic budgets with diversified funding sources. However, we understand that the nature of nonprofit work can often bring unexpected challenges. Below are two ways that YVCF shares nonprofit needs with donors throughout the year.

To qualify for both types of Nonprofit Needs Funding, the following must be true:

  1. The applying entity must be a grantable entity eligible to receive charitable funds (if in doubt, please contact our grantmaking team);
  2. The applying entity must serve Routt and/or Moffat County;
  3. The financial need must be unbudgeted, unplanned, or unexpected, and must be time limited and not recurring year-over-year.

Note: Capital Campaigns and “business as usual” funding are NOT eligible for the Nonprofit Needs Funding Program. Individual client needs are not eligible for this funding. If you are looking for urgent support for individual clients, please see the Giving Circle Funding opportunities.

Once vetted by our staff, YVCF may, at our discretion, share the need with donors whose philanthropic interests align with the need. Funding for these needs does not come from a dedicated funding source but rather serves as an opportunity for YVCF to represent your need to potential donors. There is no guarantee that a need will be funded, as it depends on whether donors feel compelled to support. Please provide details that will help donors understand the need, the urgency, why and how it came about, and the community benefit funding will provide.

Urgent Needs

The YVCF Urgent Needs Funding Program is designed to support nonprofit organizations in the Yampa Valley in overcoming an unexpected critical need that is likely to impact the organization’s ability to continue its work, or a need that, if unfulfilled, will have a detrimental impact on the community. These are needs that might warrant active outreach to donors who have aligned philanthropic interests.

To qualify for YVCF’s Urgent Needs Funding Program:

  • The financial need must be necessary for maintaining the organization’s existing services, or to respond to evolving circumstances that, if not addressed, would have a detrimental impact on the community.
  • The financial need must be unbudgeted, unplanned, or unexpected, and must be time limited and not recurring year-over-year.

Examples of an urgent need include loss of funding sources, unexpected costs such as building or equipment repair, or other shifts in income/expenses that were not anticipated in the budgeting process.

General & Capacity Needs

Beyond urgent needs, YVCF recognizes that other needs may arise throughout the year that are unbudgeted or unplanned, but do not limit the organization’s ability to carry out their work or qualify as critical/urgent. Once vetted by our staff, YVCF will use its discretion to share requests with donors for whom the need aligns with their philanthropic interests.

To qualify for YVCF’s General & Capacity Needs Funding Program, the following must be true:

  • This program is for expenses that could improve, retain or expand services, but are not necessarily urgent or critical to maintaining services or preventing a detrimental outcome to the community.
  • The financial need must be unbudgeted, unplanned, or unexpected, and must be time limited and not recurring year-over-year.

Examples of general or capacity needs include expanding services through new staff or equipment; replacing or upgrading outdated equipment; unexpected opportunities for engagement, training, or outreach, etc.

If you are unsure if your need qualifies for Urgent or General & Capacity Needs Funding please reach out to Greg ([email protected]) or Camille ([email protected]) for more information.

Sample Nonprofit Needs Funded by YVCF

The YVCF Nonprofit Needs Funding program is designed to support a wide array of funding needs that arise throughout the year. Below are a few of the needs that have been successfully funded through this program.

_BLANK DO NOT DELETE
Reaching Everyone Preventing Suicide (REPS)

In 2023, REPS ran into a cash flow crisis for their free mental health counseling program, since the demand for the services increased significantly more than budgeted for since the prior year. YVCF was able to secure enough funding to keep the program fully funded and meet the need within the community.

First Impressions of Routt County

YVCF was able to provide funding to First Impressions of Routt County for Quality Improvement Funding when the state funding for this program fell short of the projected funding that would be available for Routt County.

Northwest Colorado Community Health Partnership & Queer Futures

Funding to Health Partnership in collaboration with Queer Futures, to begin bringing an LGBTQ+  identifying behavioral health provider to the Yampa Valley twice a month for a year, in the first year pilot of this program.

Love Inc

Assistance to Love Inc. toward one year’s rent for consolidated food bank for Moffat and Rio Blanco Counties.

Northwest Colorado Health

In 2023, YVCF provided funding to Northwest Colorado Health to meet the higher-than-expected costs of having to contract with traveling nurses to be able to serve Home Health and Hospice patients, and keep the programs open to families in need.

Every day we meet with partners, new and longstanding, to pass on our passion to build a better Yampa Valley. If you have a passion, we can help you find the best way to pass it on.
