The Yampa Valley Community Foundation has made a low-cost philanthropic loan of $42,220 to the Community Budget Center of Craig (CBC) for a replacement roof covering. The loan supplements other sources of funding, including private donations, an insurance claim from prior damage, and a private foundation grant. Installation of a new, insurable roof surface assures CBC can avoid future leak damage and continue to provide services without interruption. The repair concludes four years of difficulties and ongoing damage originating from snow melt and rain runoff in November 2022.
The Community Budget Center is a nonprofit thrift store that has operated in Northwest Colorado for forty-five years, helping meet the basic needs of residents with resource connection, humanitarian services, and access to affordable household items, life coaching, and financial assistance. The CBC administers financial assistance to approximately 800 – 1,000 patrons annually; in 2024, the CBC distributed approximately $175,000 to help 895 community residents in need.
