In 2024, the WZ Giving Circle held two meetings to review 24 funding proposals from nonprofit organizations. All 24 proposals were approved, resulting in a total of $79,090 in financial support directed toward families and individuals facing hardships and in need of a helping hand. Examples of some of the proposals include:
- Childcare for a single father so he can work and advance his career ($2,500 to Fatherhood Program-Routt County)
- A bathroom remodel and drywall work to make a home ADA accessible for a client in a wheelchair ($3,500 to Northwest Colorado Center for Independence)
- Dentures and insulin pump/supplies for an individual recovering from substance use disorder ($5,000 to The Health Partnership)
- Rent assistance for a single mother of three and inpatient metal health treatment for her 16-year-old daughter ($3,772 to LiftUp of Routt County)
The WZ Giving Circle was founded by Ray (Kip) and Karen Parks in 2015 to make a difference in the lives of people in need in our communities. WZ Giving Circle members donate a minimum of $2,500 per year toward the collective giving fund and meet two times a year to hear from nonprofits who present proposals for funding up to $5,000 on behalf of anonymous clients in need. Giving Circle members then vote at the end of each meeting on funding for the proposals. The WZ Giving Circle has grown from an initial group of approximately 15 couples to over 30 members (couples and individuals).
