The mission of Dirt to Snow, Mark Satkiewicz Legacy Fund is to provide funding to support bike and snow sport programs and equipment for Routt County youth. The fund will continue Mark’s quest for inclusivity by removing barriers and making these sports accessible to all kids.
Mark was raised in Glenview, IL by loving parents Ken and Lenore Satkiewicz.
After High School he completed his undergrade at Miami of Ohio and received his Master’s in International Finance from Loyola University in Chicago. Mark spent 2 years living near Sun Valley, Idaho after college solidifying his love for the mountains. He left knowing he had to get back.
Mark’s passion for staying active merged with his career when he started with NIKE.
He spent 11 years with NIKE in Sales and Sales Management. While at NIKE he met Amy his wife of 21 years. They were blessed with 2 beautiful daughters, Olivia and Mia. Mark was given an opportunity to be a leader at Smartwool in Steamboat Springs, CO and knew this was his dream job in a mountain town. Mark started as VP of Sales for Smartwool and later became the President/CEO. In this position Mark sat on several boards that aligned with his values. He was a member of Outdoor Industry Association Board and SOS Outreach board. His journey for Advocacy started to form. Mark was offered a position as the GM for TOMS Shoes in LA. Taking this role was an opportunity to work for a brand with a core goal of advocacy. He spent 2 years in L.A. and knew he wanted to get his family back to Steamboat Springs, CO.
Mark’s final project was the creation of SBT GRVL. He created this race because he wanted to share his love for Steamboat Springs with the gravel cycling community and their families. His vision was to introduce gravel to new riders and drive gender parity.
Mark passed away on August 1, 2020. We lost a Husband, Dad, Son, brother, friend and leader.
We established Dirt to Snow, Mark Satkiewicz Legacy Fund to honor Mark’s passions. On his journey he pushed to create equality, remove barriers and provide opportunities. We will honor him by providing funding to support bike and snow sport programs and equipment for Routt County youth. The fund will continue Mark’s quest for inclusivity by removing barriers and making these sports accessible to all kids.
