YVCF is proud to announce our recent accreditation from Community Foundations National Standards® – the highest standards for philanthropic excellence.
The year-long, optional accreditation process demonstrates our commitment to rigorous, sector-driven best practices that exceed federal and state requirements to demonstrate accountability and excellence to communities, policymakers, and the public.
Community Foundations National Standards is not mandatory. We chose to go above and beyond by affirming our commitment to excellence and accountability. Our accreditation provides assurance that we have sound policies and practices in place. In short, it means we meet the highest standards for local giving.
“Meeting the National Standards benchmarks is a rigorous, comprehensive process,” said Jay Williams, board chair of National Standards. “This accreditation is a significant accomplishment that indicates that the Yampa Valley Community Foundation demonstrates a commitment to transparency, quality, integrity and accountability as it carries out its mission.”
To receive accreditation with National Standards, the Yampa Valley Community Foundation submitted our policies and procedures to a rigorous review of 26 National Standards in six key areas of community foundation operations, including donor services, investment management, grantmaking and administration.
The Accreditation Seal signals to donors and to their professional advisers that a community foundation is a sound place to give and make a difference.
“This is important to our donors,” said Tim Wohlgenant, Yampa Valley Community Foundation CEO. “When people make a charitable bequest or establish a fund, they are putting their trust in us. They are counting on us to manage the investment wisely, honor their charitable wishes and, in some cases, provide lifetime income to a loved one. The National Standards accreditation says our house is in order.”
The Community Foundations National Standards® program was established in 2000 in cooperation with the Council on Foundations. For more information about National Standards, visit www.cfstandards.org.
