The Yampa Valley Community Foundation awards $164,110 in scholarships to students from seven local schools

Scholarships were awarded to students at Yampa Valley High School, Steamboat Springs High School, Moffat County High School, SOROCO High School, Hayden High School, Meeker High School, and Colorado Mountain College.

The Yampa Valley Community Foundation (YVCF) awarded college scholarships valued at a total of $134,110 to 48 students to attend college YVCF Scholarshipsor vocational school next year. The scholarship awards range from $250 to $12,000, many of which are renewable, allowing students to finish their undergraduate education with financial assistance. For the upcoming 2019/20 school year an additional $30,000 has been awarded to date to renewal scholarships to 30 students. Twenty-one different types of scholarships were awarded – some for financial need, academic merit or community service, others for students who have overcome difficulties, and still others for specific studies. This includes two new scholarships created this year: the Live Like Sancy – The Sancy Shaw Scholarship, and the Elk River Anesthesia Healthcare scholarship.

At the recent awards ceremony at the Steamboat Springs High School, PJ Wharton, YVCF Trustee, reflected, “We are so proud to be part of the Steamboat community that celebrates and INVESTS in the future of our students. Whether trade or technical schools, wonderful local institutions like Colorado Mountain College and prestigious universities across the US, the scholarships provided to the students this year will assist each one in pursuing their dream career and educational opportunity. The Yampa Valley community again demonstrated our commitment to our youth at this year’s scholarship night. It was an honor to be a part of this inspiring event.”

The Yampa Valley Community Foundation was established in 1996 to save the now Colorado Mountain College and has a strong history of providing educational opportunities for local students.
