Trail Maintenance Donors of the Month: Robin and Heather Craigen

1. How do you enjoy trails?

We are an active company and our employees live the mountain lifestyle, hiking and biking to get out and experience this incredible area.  We have recreated on our trails in all ways both casually with friends and family, and competitively in local events.  It is one of the best ways to appreciate the incredible beauty that surrounds us.

2. When did you first become a donor of the TMEF and what inspired you to give?

We have given to trails development every year that we have lived in the Yampa Valley – both volunteering and through Routt County Riders. This is the first time we have donated to the TMEF as a company but we know how much our employees value these trails and see the value in creating a fund for sustaining this network.

3. Can you share a memorable experience you’ve had on our local or area trails?

I think that getting to mountain bike on trails that you have helped to build or fund is a very special experience.  We all like to think that we can make the world a better place and this is a real experience with what we have in our local area since trail construction gained momentum.

4. What is your vision for the future of trails in the Yampa Valley?

I hope that we will be able to enjoy a sustainable connected network of trails that offer a variety of experiences for mountain bikers and hikers.  Recognizing that we share our environment with wildlife and other recreational users I hope that we can find a balance that meets the recreational demand we see in our growing community while preserving wildlife habitat.  A planned network of trails placed to minimize impacts can absorb the recreational uses and discourage rogue trails and unplanned encroachment into sensitive areas.

5. What is your message to people who have not given to the TMEF yet?

The TMEF offers an opportunity to invest in the future of our trails.  Don’t under-estimate the value of our trails and the need to maintain them for the benefit of everyone that lives here or visits Steamboat and Routt County. This is a community-wide effort that anyone can support.  You don’t have to give a lot to make a difference because the total of all of our contributions is what will get us to our goal.
